I also think that it is in character for Barty Crouch to believe that
his master can do anything. Even if Harry were somewhat familiar with
the effects of the curse, Barty would believe that his master's will
would be able to overcome anything. And the strength of the curse, it's
pretty well indicated, is drawn from the strength of the will of the
caster. So he could stay in character without doing any damage. Who,
least of all this half-Muggle boy, could stand against the will of
Voldemort?
