Bonnie,
   First of all, welcome.  The idea that a deatheater may have killed 
James has been brought up before.  I can only point to my own 
messages and I wasn't the first to theorize along these lines but 
back around messages 1767 and 1825 the idea that Snape was there that 
night and killed James (intentionally or not) was bandied about.  It 
had to do with Snape being a spy high up in the ranks of the 
deatheaters on a mission with Voldy.  This could explain his hatred 
of Harry for stealing his glory and possibly explain why Dumbledore 
trusts him.
   Anyway, further discussion and ideas are always welcomed and this 
topic is one that still has a lot of questions surrounding it.
