Being an adult sf/fantasy adept myself, I would certainly recommend C.S.
Friedman's Coldfire Trilogy. The titles are:
Book 1 -- Black sun rising
Book 2 -- When true night falls
Book 3 -- Crown of shadows

Very dark, very gothic and romantic. Read them, please!
