IIRC, it was Madame de Stael (aka Germaine, Baronne de Stael-Holstein,
1766-1817)
Your essay is quite good - charity is a difficult concept to nail down.
You may want to look at Charity from the perspective of the other major
characters: e.g., Snape - clearly he does not like Harry and is willing to
harass him in all sorts of petty ways - yet is he still able to protect
Harry when the situation demands it. Dumbledore seems at a spiritual point
where his own desires do not matter - he selflessly offers guidance to all
who recognize their need for it.
