I can't say I've been scared by much in these books, but the scenes 
that disturbed me the most were (a) the writing on the wall in CoS, 
(b) the Death Eaters parading the Muggle family through the Quidditch 
camp in GoF.  

Monsters, in general, don't scare me because I can convince myself 
they are impossible, whereas both the above scenes have parallels 
with real life situations.
