Steve and Ellie,
As one of those middle school teachers researching etymologies in
Harry Potter, I want to thank you both for providing excellent
resources for my kids. I made the Lexicon a favorite place in our
school library, and we went there this past Monday and Wednesday
(Oct. 23 and 25) to reasearch name origins. (They used the Lexicon
link to your site, Ellie, and you would have thought they had found
the Holy Grail!) With a little advance work, I was able to remove the
blocks on various HP sites, including "What's In A Name?" and the
Encyclodedia Potterica's new name origin link. (Thanks, Steve). It's
so much fun for them and for me as well. (I seem to have become
obsessed -- now how did that ever happen?)
By the way, Ellie, my students loved your comments about Harry
Potter's name and Lavender Brown's as well. They were amused.
Steve, several kids are working on compiling the research we did on
magical creatures in HP. They want to eamil you a copy of it to let
you know how much your site helped them with the work. They really
liked the book and chapter notations about where the beasts could be
found in the series.
Thanks again. Your work makes my job more fun!
