Back when I encountered the term in Calvin & Hobbes, I assumed that 
Transmogrify was a childish confusion of TRANSMutate (transmutate of 
elements: lead into gold), TRANSMiGRate (transmigration of souls) and 
metaMORphosis (as in Ovid). They're all big word for 'change' that 
grown-ups use.
