Actually, my first thought on his last name was that his mother and 
father "blended" their last names (my choices?  Green and Flint) - so 
that they wouldn't have a "Rupert Green-Flint" or some other 
hyphenated name.  Either that, or when they got married, instead of 
his mother taking his father's name, they blended the two to make it 
more equal.  Just a theory, as the name Grint doesn't really sound 
like a typical English surname.
