If that is true, it might help explain why the Weasley twins never 
noticed "Peter Pettigrew" on the map.  Peter had been 
named "Scabbers" as a rat, and that is as valid a name as "Peter 
Pettigrew" in my mind.  So when he was in rat form he might appear 
as "Scabbers".  Sirius and Rita Skeeter, on the other hand, never got 
named as animals, so the map would just revert to their human names 
even while they were in animal form.
