Japanese 'moons' had names too, and therefore classic Japanese names
of months had lunar derivations. Several of the MUTZUKI class
destroyers built in the early 1920's carried these names. These
translations came into English by way of German, so they probably
have some problems, but on the whole give an idea:
Satsuki: "Month of First Buds"
Kisarigi: "Second Month"
Yayoi: "Month of Growing Plants"
Mutsuki: "Month (moon) of First Rice-Sowing"
Uzuki: "Month of Blooming Makinos"
Fumizuki: "Month of Rice Ears"
Kikuzuki: "Month of Chrysanthemum Blooms"
Minazuki: "Sixth Month"
Mikazuki: "Sickle Moon"
Nagatsuki: "Month of Long Moonlight"
Yuzuki: "Evening Moon"
Mochizuki: "Full Moon"
more of these very poetic ship names can be found here:
