I thought the fact that Ron and Harry (along with some other 
students) were allowed to sit at the head table for Xmas in PoA 
implied that some of the teachers had left to visit their families 
for Xmas. After all, there are twelve seats at the head table and if 
there are seats spare some teachers must have left. It's a bit of a 
generalisation to say that NONE of the teachers are involved 
romantically, etc, just because Harry's 'main' teachers (Dumbledore, 
McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, etc) appear to be alone. Who knows about 
the private lives of 'unknown' professors such as Vector or Sinistra?
