I think it happened because the AK curse *backfired*. If I remember
well, in CoS the ceiling of the tunnel that led to the chamber broke
down when Lockhart took the blast of his own Memory Charm, caused by
Ron's broken wand. If a failed Memory Charm can do this, the blast
from an AK curse would be even more powerful, wouldn't it?
