I have to say, I didn't pick up any gay undertones - Lupin had to leave
because of the werewolf thing.  I don't know if it's strictly necessary to
read too much into it.  Yes, it's a metaphor for prejudice and being an
outcast, but does not necessarily equate to homosexuality, IMHO.
