Yeah . . . hindsight is 20/20 as they say. In going back through GoF,
it's clear to most of us that JKR was subtly (or perhaps not so subtly)
developing Cedric's character more, even by use of introducing his
father into the narrative more. I do think that Amos' character
highlights Cedric's good traits (Amos seemed intent on building up his
son at Harry's expense earlier -- this serves as a contrast to Cedric's
humility).

This was interesting, eh? I think it could be an indication that he's a
little more used to his fame & settled into Hogwarts more. It could
also be that they all arrived with a bit of time to spare, didn't they?
In the past, it seems they're rushing to get on the train with only 2-3
minutes to board.

I wonder if this is just a JKR slip-up. All other indications seem to
be that she was basing the Burrow more in the Exeter area. It may be
that she simply didn't take taxi costs into account. Obviously, they
should have travelled by Brit-Rail. They would have probably been less
conspicuous on BritRail too.
