> He's incredibly powerful - but if he used it to full extent he could make things go *just so* and everything would be perfect - but who learns anything? and what a sterile world. I'm having an echo of some kids book here - anyone know whick one? (not the just so bit

> ok, so I remember which book it is - its the end of "the dark is rising" sequence, the speech Merriman give to Will, the bad news is that you are going to have to take my word for it because I can't find it to quote. I swear someone is coming in to my house and stealing my books - first "chewing gum rescue" and now this!

storm, it's on "Silver on the tree"( oh, god I love that book! :))
I think that the quote you meant was this:

"For Drake is no longer in his hammock, children, nor is Arthur somewhere sleeping, and you may not lie idly expecting the second coming of anybody now, because the world is yours and it is up to you. Now especially since man has the strength to destroy this world, it is the responsibility of man to keep it alive, in all its beauty and marvelous joy,,,,and the world will still be imperfect, because men are imperfect. Good men will still be killed by bad, or sometimes by other good men, and there will still be pain and disease and famine, anger and hate. But if you work and care and are watchful, as we have tried to be for you, then in the long run the worse will never, ever, triumph over the better...."

(whew...! That was a long one!) I'm pretty sure that was what you meant. This just goes to show how men/women's actions can have a great effect on others and the world. Imagine how powerful Dumbledore really is, and remember Dumbledore is the only person that Voldemort fears. I wonder why that is? Any ideas? Could it be that he displays so much goodness and love that the sight of him makes Voldemort uneasy because he doesn't understand fully what *love is, and he doesn't want to be associated with it? I think love is a very powerful magic if you think about it.

Dumbledore as a headmaster......hmmm....this got me thinking. I find Dumbledore to be a really wise and knowledgeble person. And his method of running hogwarts may be for some(like Fudge) well, not normal. And imagine the reaction of some parents when he hired Snape for the potions professor and Hagrid as a care for magical creatures teacher.Dumbledore's ways aren't traditional and he likes to do what he thinks is best for the students even though sometimes he doesn't abide with the regulations. And that's what makes him an independent thinker and a great headmaster.

Come to think of it, he could have gotten any job because of his reputation of defeating Grindelwald and god knows what else. Why do u think he opt to become a headmaster of a school?
