Male Scabbers... or not?

Would a wizard family neuter their pets?  Hence the "ahem" disappearance in
the movie of any indications?

Couldn't you just picture poor Peter now, with Percy taking him to Diagon
Alley, and saying, Ok, Mr. Vet, I want to fix him.  And he's unable to
transform back to stop it or he'll be in some very horrid trouble!
