Breaking the rules to say nothing more than I agree with this
excellent essay.

Actually, I fibbed a bit: I will also say that I think Snape is more
than a stereotype, he's a test of Harry's maturity in understanding
that you don't have to be a nice guy to be a good guy.  As I said
before, Harry is still at the stage of his life when his personal
likes get in the way of how he perceives someone (ie, he's still not
100% or even 90% sure of Snape at the end of GoF.)
