That was my initial thought. But then I remember in a recent BBC 
interview, J. K. Rowling revealed that Snape was 35-36 years old. So 
if Snape was 35-36 in the early-mid 90's, when the Potter series 
occurs and if the Lupin is in the same age group as Snape, then he 
would have been about in his teens when the book was written. Of 
course, that wouldn't necessarily he could not have written the book.
