Didn't Voldie say that Dumbledore had *invoked* an
ancient protection over Harry while he was at the
Dursleys?  DOn't have my GOF with me, but that was the
impression I had.  Right after leaving Harry on their
doorstep, Dumbledore did this incredibly complex piece
of ancient magic that would protect him until he could
protect himself.  But it's very hard and draining to
do, so he can't just move the protection to the
Weasleys or something later.
