Just had to bring up Louisa May Alcott and 'Little Women' again. I read
somewhere that she had Laurie marry Amy because she was annoyed at people
wanting to see Jo and Laurie together ... =P

However, I agree with Margaret in that I think JKR just wanted to shake up
people who had already arrived at various smug assumptions about the plot.

I agree that it would be very meaningful and all, but if that happens, it
will be near impossible for me to ever reread the series again. When I
reread multi-volume books, I tend to get carried away by the story and
don't stop until I finish the whole series. No matter how interesting the
earlier books are, I won't feel like reading them again if they have sad or
bittersweet endings, because it's just too heartbreaking when I get to the
end.
