Ah.....when one doesn't have the book with them!  What I remember 
about this is that Snape is standing in the background with an 
amused 'trying hard not to laugh' look on his face.  Picture this 
rock solid cat lying there with Dumbledore and McGonagall placing 
their nose almost on the cat.  It would be faily amusing :)  I 
believe there is more to Mrs. Norris and Filch.  One day we will 
probably look back on this scene in a whole new light.

I believe Snape then questions the threesome as to where they have 
been.  He always gets a tad upset when he can't nail them on 
something.
