Oh, my! This is the best reason I've seen yet for Voldemort
being willing to take Snape back even if he isn't 100% sure of
his loyalty. Snape is, after all, one of THE most skilled potion
brewers around (cf. Lupin in PoA stating that Snape is one of the
few wizards who can put together a Wolfsbane Potion
successfully). And in the very first book, in his opening speech
to his class, Snape tells them he can "even stopper death" with a
potion. Sounds like he's had some previous experience, yes?
(And might that have been part of how V. lured Snape in the first
place, by making him feel as if his particular skill was
appreciated and needed?)
