Agree with all this - and I think he likes Harry at this stage - or is drawn
to him.

I don't exactly disagree, but I think Draco is quite people-smart, in a way.
He knows how to hurt people, anyway. I think Draco basically does fear
his father, although he knows how to manipulate him as well - they
manipulate each other. In Madam Malkin's, he says "I think I'll bully my
father into getting me [a racing broom]" - showing off, since he doesn't
actually get one until the following year. But he has learnt from his
father, IMO, that bullying people works. Why does he ignore the advice?
He's just not able to hide his feelings that much - yet. In the dialogue in
Knockturn Alley, each is trying to use the other to get what he wants, but
Dad calls the shots at the end of the day. I'm afraid Lucius has got the
son he deserves.
