i'm going to add my 0.02 in on this, as a thought just occurred to me.
despite the fact that in CoS it was said that only a descendant of
gryffindor could pull the sword from the hat (which harry did thus
translating to harry being a descendant of godric) it's possible the
transferrance of powers and basic "knowing" is also because of bloodlines.
the sprting hat said that harry would do well in slitherin. what's to say
that's not because he is also a descendant of that line?
