True, but that wouldn't necessarily prevent him saying that the
=rumor= was disgusting.  That would be him sticking up for Snape,
in a way.  "It's disgusting that people would say such things
about a Hogwarts professor."

I agree the remark is highly ambiguous, and I'm sure it's by
design.  :)
