I don't think anyone has suggested this (my apologies if someone has).
It could be that Snape is still trying to protect Harry. After all, it's
only been a few months since the Sorcerer's Stone has been destroyed, and now
suddenly Harry Potter doesn't show up with the rest of the school for the
Sorting. Snape, who always seems to have an eye out for Harry, would notice
this and go to find out what happened to him. Who knows, Voldemort could be
making a second attempt to get to Harry, or perhaps Snape even knows
something of the "plot" that Dobby mentioned (although I'm not so sure about
that).
It's also possible that Dumbledore is looking out for Harry, notices that
he's not there, and sends Snape to find him.
Either way, I think that Snape could be making sure Harry is safe, and
resenting every minute of it.
