in Britain
This is how it is done at Eton College.

dress and so on. Personally (referring to the film) I think the
designers of the uniforms have missed a trick in going for a more
conventional appearance. They could even have adopted the Christ's
Hospital look

Public Schools in Britain are Publicly Endowed schools (historically,
not funded by the Church and limited to church selected entrants).
They are private and independent of the State.
