According to QTA, there are  cushioning charms on the better brooms, 
and no doubt if Hermione can make Harry's glasses impervious, she can 
teach him a charm to protect his tender areas from Quidditch injury.

Or, to take a leaf from the Muggles' book,  he wears an athletic 
supporter?
