Sure does. Outstanding post, BTW. May you make many more.

I think authors can sometimes explain too much. You see this in fics, 
where we put in loads and loads of "backfill" to the point the story 
is choked up by all the weeds.

I like discovering things the way you described.  Maybe you could say 
that Rowling doesn't "describe" as much as she "reveals."

"Stern utilitariansim."  I'd said before that Rowlings's words 
"weren't art by themselves," but "straightforward and simple." You put 
it better. It all adds up to storytelling, some of the best 
storytelling in a long time.
