In QTA, It states that if you transfigure into a bird , then you get 
the mindset of a bird. So, when you transfigure  then you actualy 
become that animal. So then, IMO, when you become an animagus you 
"transform" yourself into a hybrid man/animal you have the outward 
characteristicsof the animal, yet you maintain your "Humanity" ( 
wizardarity?).
