There is also the prospect that Slytherin has shown itself to
accumulate the children *most* likely to be susceptible to Dark
propaganda. Snape, as someone who succumbed to that same influence
and then came to realize its fatal flaws and turn aside from it, is
in an excellent position to recognize the warning signs in the
Slytherin kids, and try to subtly counteract those influences. I
maintain that the fact that the Slytherin kids took their medicine
manfully when the House Cup was swept out of their hands at the end
of PS, tends to indicate that Snape may be having at least some sort
of a good influence on them. They dish it out, but they seem to
understand that they also have to take it from time to time.
