Very very interesting point. Neville doesn't seem to be as "dumb" as 
the kids seem to want to make him out to be. J.K. did, after all, 
wait such a long time to reveal what had happened to his parents. My 
guess is that he's got a pivotal role to play somewhere down the line 
and that he'll come out of his clumsy shell sooner or later once he 
accepts his magical inheritance. He and Potter are similar in that 
aspect.
