Remember, JKR agreed to this bowdlerization under pressure from Scholastic, 
before the books were such a huge success.  I assume that they pretty much 
forced her to do it, which is why I place all the blame on the *American* VP 
from Scholastic.  It doesn't take much reading between the lines of the Levine 
interview to see that it was all his idea and she just went along with it 
feeling powerless to contradict him.  I'll say it one more time: It just bugs me 
to no end that this foolish attitude was perpetrated by senior staff at a  
major US publisher of kids' books.
