In the Annual Special issue of Bon Appetit,(a US food magazine) JKR 
was asked "What is  butterbeer and what does it taste like?"  Her 
answer: "I made it up.  I imagine it to taste a little bit like less 
sickly butterscotch."  She made no mention of its alcoholic content.
