How Do You Kill A Dementor? (WAS Dissolving Dementors)

Although I'm mostly joking about water "melting dementors, I would 
think that all dark creatures have a soft underbelly, an Achilles 
heel, a weakness that allows them to be defeated.  For dementors, we 
know that a Patronus drives them back.  

But shouldn't there also be a way to kill dementors?  Lupin says they 
like dark, filthy places.  A Patronus wards them off, but as we saw 
in PoA, it doesn't always work when there are lots of dementors 
(unless you just happen to have someone around who is using a 
timeturner).  If there weren't a way to kill dementors, wouldn't they 
eventually just team up and dominate the wizarding world?
