I think its reasonable that D knew pretty much all about their 
marauding, the monthly adventures, the sneaking out, without actually 
suspecting that they were doing it in animal form.
After all, animagi are pretty few and far between, so no one, not 
even D would suspect that three youngsters were capable, unless they 
physically saw them out and about, which D never need have done.
