Yes, you're right.
But just because the other Marauders were missing from Hogwarts
doesn't mean anybody would assume they were with Remus. Dumbledore
might've known they were aware of the secret passages to Hogsmeade,
and just assumed they had snuck out through one of them. Even if it
was noticed that James, Sirius, and Peter were missing during the
full moon, I rather doubt that the first conclusion anybody jumped to
would've been that they had transformed into animals to hang out with
their werewolf friend.
