Ah, but at the time of the Harry-Krum conversation, Krum isn't someone
she barely knows. That conversation takes place in the last week of May
per GoF, so it's a full 5 months after the Yule Ball. She may well have
not known Viktor terribly well when she accepted his invitation to the
Ball (since this acceptance of a date is apparently roughly 5-7 weeks
after he arrived at Hogwarts on Halloween). But, by late May, I think
we can assume that Hermione knows Krum reasonably well. Cassie makes
the point that we don't know much about the Hermione/Krum relationship
in the intervening months between the Yule Ball & the end of the book,
but we do know that he asked her to visit in Bulgaria & she was his
"thing he'd miss most" in the 2nd Task in late Feb. All of this
suggests to me that Hermione was spending *some* amount of time with
Krum, and it would seem that they have moved past the "awkward
conversation" stage of the relationship.

I just point out that we don't know if Hermione does or does not pick up
on Viktor's jealousy of Harry.

Exactly. We do know that Viktor has quite strong feelings about
Hermione, and we can surmise that the strength of his interest in her
makes her uncomfortable. But, if *5* months after the Yule Ball,
Hermione is still talking about Harry all the time when she's around
Krum, it seems there's some substance to Krum's jealous feelings. If
she were talking about Harry *and Ron* all the time, I don't imagine it
would inspire the same sort of reaction from Krum. He'd be inclined in
that case to dismiss it as both boys just being her friends. But, she
apparently doesn't have much or anything to say about Ron, judging from
Krum's reaction.

Hee, hee.
