Re:Voldemort pronunciation
Literal French translation is:
Vol - Flight / de- of / Mort - Death
Pronounced somewhat like Vohldeemor.

Snape is English backcountry slang for "to snub",
again, very appropriate. JKR doesn't write anything
particularily deep into her character's names, but
they're all QUITE appropriate, I think. Anyone else
got any interesting tidbits to share?

Re: Females and Hermione
-Personally, I can't stand her. Mostly because she
reminds me of what I was like at that age, ie,
completely insufferable.

Re: Potions for Fame and Glory
-Perhaps something regarding charisma? Or it could be
something as simple as things like invisibility and
transfiguration potions leading (or having lead) to
obtaining knowledge or something else otherwise
unavailable, and "surprise" wins in combat of some
for.
Agreed about Snape being melodramatic. <grin>

Re: Sex at Hogwarts and Snape
-Well, it probably isn't RAMPANT, but I would say it's
fairly common (if we take for granted that
Wizard/English teenagers feel the same way about sex
as human/American teenageers do) Lack of privacy acts
as a deterrant, but teenagers WILL be teenagers, and
do tend to find times and places, even if they DO get
caught. Think summer camp.

-Snape blasting kids out of the rosebushes, well, we
could come up with all sorts of "bitterness/lack of
intimacy" excuses for that one, if you just want to go
for plain and simple, or we can just blame Freud, and
say Snape secretly desired his mother and is ...

<rant rant rant> Sorry, I'm not a Psych major
(Philosophy actually if anyone cares), but everyone
else in my classes seems to be, and it always goes
back to Freud. <offtopic> You know, a lot could be
said about that!!

-Who would end up teaching Sex-Ed?? Whoever drew the
short lot?
