Goodness, shipping is really addictive, isn't it? There's even more
canon support for the H/MM Ship than I first thought.

In "The Unforgivable Curses": "Hermione's hand shook slightly as,
for the third time, she raised it into the air. . . . '*Avada
Kedavra*', Hermione whispered." IIRC, this is the only place in the
HP series in which Hermione raises her hand in a manner that is not
aggressive and confident. Hermione Granger, visibly trembling and
answering a question in a whisper? For some reason, she just can't
be herself when Mad-Eye Moody is around.

Then, in "The Dream," Hermione finally shows how deeply obsessed she
is with her Mad-Eye. The trio sends an owl to Sirius and talks with
Fred and George. Then Ron suggests they go down to breakfast.
Hermione says, "D'you think it's too early to go and see Professor
Moody?" She'll do anything for a glimpse of Mad-Eye; she actually
proposes visiting him at a time when he probably *is not even
dressed*!

I know, I know, at first, it sounds far-fetched. But Hermione is a
stand-out at Hogwarts, being one of the brightest and most successful
students. Mad-Eye Moody is an accomplished auror, famous and one of
the best. It makes sense that two ambitious and successful people
would be attracted to each other. What does *not* make sense is that
Hermione would prefer Ron or Harry, who are not nearly as ambitious
as she is.

Bottom line: JKR has given us incontrovertable proof that Hermione
is smitten with The Man With The Wheezy Growl. I'm sold.

Yes, Lupin was definitely off his game that night. He forgets to
take his potion, forgets to wipe the map clean or take it with him,
doesn't see the invisibility cloak on the ground, forgets that doors
don't open by themselves, devises a lame way of transporting Peter
back to the castle, and forgets there will be a full moon.

I guess I could launch a tepid defense regarding the door. No one in
the Shrieking Shack had enough knowledge to put all the pieces
together and figure out someone might be there in an invisibility
cloak. Lupin didn't know about the cloak (and I don't believe he has
any idea Harry even has a cloak). Harry doesn't know Lupin left the
map on his desk, or that Snape would have reason to go to Lupin's
office. Black knows about the cloak (presumably he saw the kids take
it off to chase Scabbers), but he doesn't know about the moon, the
potion or the map.

I've always been more troubled about why Lupin doesn't wipe the map
clean. I know, I know. He forgot. <heavy sigh>

Cindy (who thinks the H/MM Ship definitely needs an acronym)
