That's not exact. None of the main characters are known to be married, 
true enough, but we have 2 distinct examples of broken families: 
Voldemort's (who's father left his mother when she was carrying him) 
and Hagrid (who's mother left him and his father becuase she felt the 
call of the mointains). Both of them are what they are today because of 
those thing, and the books expose it clearly. If we look up the cannon, 
we can probably find other examples.
