A very real possibility. I also suspect that Muggle
borns tend to be more powerful than so-called
'purebreds' Hermione and Lily being cases in point.
It does seem very clear that there is no
correlation between the 'purity' of one's blood and
one's magical potential, (look at poor Neville!).
The prejudice against 'Mudbloods' was originally
rooted in an not entirely unwarranted uncertainty
about the ultimate loyalties of the Muggle born. But
in fairness to the Muggle born it should be remembered
that the wrongs didn't all flow one way, (however much
Wizards like to pretend they did) going by Voldemorte
and the DEs I'd guess certain members of the Wizarding
community gave the Muggles lots of reason to hate and
fear magic users. I for one would hate to have to
chose between my family and my Wizarding teachers and collegues.
