Unfortunately, children that young do remember traumatic events.  As they grow they will be affected by that event especially since at that age they do not understand what is happening and cannot talk about it.  It will adversely affect them for the rest of their life.  And this is just witnessing traumatic events.  Much worse for being the victim.
