Hmm. Good question. Maybe they just let the fumes waft over them or 
something?  I could kind of see that working on a ghost.

lol. I think the whole Mandrakes being little babies is just a cute play on 
words kind of thing. Real Mandrake plants are thought to look like the bodies 
of human babies, so why not make them real human-like babies in the magical 
world? ^_^
