I always tend to lump the Mandrakes and the garden gnomes together
("Geroff me!")--sure, they appear to be perfectly humanoid as far as we
consider them, but the wizards apparently have no trouble boiling them
and/or hurling them over heads and flinging them around a bit.  Hmmm. This
could prove an interesting debate over wizard ethics. I wonder if there's
a Wizards equivalent to PETA for such creatures?  After all, the house
elves are virtually slaves, and no one seems to care.  The wizards do seem
awfully behind the times in such respects. 

Now I'm fascinated! Maybe Hermione could become a lobbyist!
