Plot Device for Fan's Death

The speculation on which fan of Harry's will die in OotP is 
interesting. How's this:

The key victim in CoS: Ginnie Weasley, because of a nasty trick by 
Lucius Malfoy
The key victim in PoA: Sirius, case of mistaken identity
The key victim in GoF: Cedric Diggory, wrong place at wrong time

There were also a lot of wrong place wrong time victims in CoS as 
well, pretty much everyone was.

So I think the victim in the next book will result from the use of a 
different plot device. Here are some options:

Valiant sacrifice
Knows a secret and must be eliminated
A credible threat to LV, requiring elimination
Direct confrontation of LV

I'm sure there are more, perhaps someone would care to contribute?

My point: the candidate list for Harry's Fan can change depending on 
what plot device will be used to kill him or her off.
