I have discusssed this with a friend of mine - a fellow "Potterite"....and we 
believe that Wormtail is a follower - that his allegiance to Voldy is weak at 
best....he is really a coward.....but, when push comes to shove, he'll come 
to Harry's aid, perhaps even die for what's right.....finally.  We get hints 
of this......."We can use any wizard", he says to Voldy, when in Chapter 1 of 
Book 4 Voldy  talks about getting Harry for his plan to return to his body 
and gain full power.

Must go........will mull all this over......
