Hey everyone -
I finally got my boyfriend to see the movie and since then we've been
talking quite a lot about the books. Raul had a perspective that I
thought was interesting. As I was reading the first chapter of CoS to
him (I'm a teacher; I love to read out loud to anyone who'll listen),
he said "Stop! I can't listen to this anymore." He went on to
explain that he feels that Harry is persecuted by the Dursleys,
Voldemort... He says that he doesn't see any happiness on Harry's
part. It upset him enough that he wanted me to stop reading.
I think Harry has many happy times at Hogwarts and that he is well
loved by many in the wizarding community (the Weasleys, his friends,
Sirius, Hagrid and more). I do see though, a growing sense of
isolation in Harry that I believe will play a bigger part in OoP.
But do I think he is constantly persecuted and unhappy? I don't know.
What do you all think?
