Talking of delurking... Hi, I'm Muridae. I've been hanging around the
list for a while now, waiting until I had something worth saying before
breaking into the conversation. My VCR obliged with the necessary
freeze-frames, so here's what we've got from that all-important list.

Firstly, the bad news. The list is two pages long, and only the first
page is shown on camera. And it doesn't include any female Gryffindors
that we didn't know about.

Secondly, it does pretty much settle the question about how many kids
are in Harry's year. There are several crossings out and late insertions
(both Hermione and Neville look like they were squeezed in at a later
point in time), and those corrections make it difficult to get an exact
head count. But the first page has 22 names on it. The second has 18-20,
ending with a "W" surname (presumably our Ron) and then a "Z"
(presumably Blaise Zabini), so it is the complete list for their year.
So, call it 40 kids with 10 in each house, with the possibility that one
or two of the houses might have an extra. It would certainly seem to
confirm all the evidence seen in the books, wherever actual headcounts
are found.

The list of kids whose names can be seen are:

Abbott, Hannah (Hufflepuff)
Bones, Susan (Hufflepuff)
Boot, Trevor (Ravenclaw)
Brocklehurst, Mandy (Ravenclaw)
Brown, Lavender (Gryffindor)
Bulstrode, Millicent (Slytherin)
Corner, Michael (Hufflepuff)
Cornfoot, Stephen (Ravenclaw)
Crabbe, Vincent (Slytherin)
Davis, Tracey (Slytherin)
Entwhistle, Kevin (Ravenclaw)
Finch-Fletchley, Justin (Hufflepuff)
Finnigan, Seamus (Gryffindor)
Goldstein, Anthony (Hufflepuff)
Goyle, Gregory (Slytherin)
Granger, Hermione (Gryffindor)
Greengrass, Queenie???? (Slytherin)
Hopkins, Wayne (Hufflepuff)
Jones, Megan (Hufflepuff)
Li, Su (Ravenclaw)
Longbottom, Neville (Gryffindor)
McDougal, Isabel (Ravenclaw)

JKR's handwriting is reasonably clear, but there are a couple of places
where it's not easy to see what was written. The Greengrass child's name
is my best guess. And I couldn't see a house noted against Neville's
name... but as I said, he and Hermione were written in late. Each child
has three symbols against their name. One (the first) indicates their
sex, the third indicates their house by the first letter of its name,
and I haven't a clue what the second one means. I may go back and study
it later, and try to spot patterns in which kids get what.

So far as the second page goes, only the first couple of letters of each
name are visible. There are three more "M" surnames (the third of which
must be Moon), one "N" (Nott), a "Pa" (Parkinson), two "Pat"s (Patel and
Patel), a "Per" (Perks), then a "Pot" (clearly Harry). I couldn't make
out the next few names (too much crossing out), but the list ends with
at least three "S" surnames, a "T" (Turpin), a "W" (Ron), and a "Z"
(Zabini).

Hope that's of some help!
