In reexamining this portion of the canon and Harry's acumen I ask the reader

In GoF, H & H spend many hours perfecting HP's perfection of "Accio 
Firebolt." (The First Task)  Now fast forward to The Egg and The Eye, where 
HP "pulled out his wand and struggled to touch the MM, to wipe it blank, but 
it was too far away to reach---"  

Since he did have his wand, why didn't he cry out "Accio Egg" and "Accio Map" 
to close the one and wipe the other when they came to him.  We know that the 
charm works since Moody/Crouch uses it to spirit the MM from Snape.

I reject the suggestion that students were forbidden to do magic in the halls 
of Hogwarts.

It seems in certain respects that our likeable hero acts mainly on instinct 
rather than reason.

Just a thought in passing;  How are twins ID'd on the MM, if Juniors are 
excised.
